Canon Edward Grant, the Vicar of Portsmouth, was passionate about education and revived the fortunes of the School with the building of the Victorian School (now the Upper Juniors) in 1879.

Canon Walter Barton was Head from 1926 to 1936 during which time his ambitious plans for the school included the biggest physical expansion in its history with the acquisition of the officers’ block of the Cambridge Barracks and the Hilsea playing fields.

Samuel Hudson was a popular long-serving Master of the First Form (1879-1920) after which he served as Clerk to the Governors until his retirement at the grand age of 84.

Please consider making a gift to help increase bursary support for the brightest pupils.

Thanks to a generous donor, today every gift is being matched pound for pound so your gift is worth even more: if you donate £100 we receive £200. But we only have 36-hours, so whether you left PGS this year or 50 years ago, or you’re connected to us in another way, your gift will have its biggest impact today.
